How it works
You may like to download the sample exercises to get an idea of what’s involved
and how simple and fun Help Them Read is to use.
If you have registered, you will have been offered the free Foundation exercises.
If you haven’t already downloaded these, you can do this
here
once you have logged in. (To log in, you must have first registered).
Once downloaded, print out the exercise. We don’t recommend attempting to teach,
or assess the learner from a computer screen.
Ready to go?
When you are ready to proceed with Help Them Read, the first thing you will need
to do is to assess your learner’s reading ability.
There are 80 groups of exercises (called Sets) within Help Them Read. The assessment
will give you the recommended point at which to start with your learner.
Don’t worry! You can work through the exercises at the learner’s pace and download
further Sets as you need them. You can stop whenever you wish. There is no commitment
for you to subscribe to any number of Sets.
The only equipment you will require is a black pen, a red pen, index cards and sheets
of A4 paper. Then, all that is required is enthusiasm and commitment to spend 20
or so minutes a day, on a regular basis, to help your learner learn to read. Our
experience suggests that the quickest progress will be made if the exercises are
done daily for 5-6 days a week.
