About Us

Help Them Read is based in South Wales, UK. The methods used in our exercise Sets were pioneered and used successfully for over 30 years by one of our founders, Anthony Capron.

This was in teaching children with special needs to develop and improve their reading skills. These methods have now been brought together in the Help Them Read system and made available for home use with children and adults.

In his work, Anthony Capron found that committed parents are especially suited to help their children to read with the correct exercises to help and guide them, devised by a qualified person. It also works with adults helping adults.

Help Them Read is designed for this purpose.

Anthony Capron is a Master of Philosophy, a Bachelor of Education (Hons.) and has a Diploma in Teaching Children and Adults with Special Needs. He has been a guest lecturer at several universities on the subject of using unqualified help to teach children and adults to read. His work has been published in leading educational journals and his research work includes:

  • ‘Slow Learning Adolescents During Their Last Two Years At School’ – 1973, University of Wales
  • ‘Programmes of Work For Children Who Have Difficulties With Reading – devised and organised by Capron, A.C.’ – 1978, Council for National Academic Awards

The Help Them Read system is currently being adapted for use in Africa for children of normal abilities, special needs and the deaf. A Braille version is also being prepared for use with the blind and partially sighted. This work is being done on a charitable basis in partnership with Health Help International.

Help Them Read has a policy of continual development of the system for other types of users.
